West from Krabi by ferry boat a couple of hours you will find the 2 islands that make up the Ko Phi Phi island group. These became very popular after the filming of Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie "The Beach".

It then became overrun by the younger "backpacker" crowd but the low lying area where the town is located was devastated by the 2004 Christmas tsunami. The businesses have largely been rebuilt now but not completely.
