Itinerary Description:
2/11/12 The 4 of us arrived very early on Saturday in San Felipe, unloaded the 4 bikes and set up tents in the high rise tent camp sites at Kiki's RV Camp on the beach. Took a short side trip to visit the nearby giant saguaro cactus on a day trip to Valle de Los Gigantes.
On day 2 we took the brand new super smooth highway south, got gas at a new looking Pemex in Puertocitos then soon the pavement abruptly ended and became a very rocky but graded and wide dirt road the rest of the way.
Though later in Loreto I met a guy on a Gold Wing that did it with his wife on back (or so he claimed - you can't trust what a drunk Canadian says now can you?), I can't imagine how his tires fared. You don't need a lot of clearance if you go slowly I suppose but I'd say you would be abusing your tires if they were 100% street treads.
In Gonzaga Bay just south of the Federali checkpoint, at the airstrip there is a little Pemex and a nice mini market and restaurant at Rancho Grande, or go along the airstrip towards the beach where there are palapas and Alfonsina's hotel and restaurant, about the only hotel around for miles I think.
Finally arrived late afternoon at Coco's Corner for a windy and chilly night so Coco pretty much guilted us into sleeping in his extra pickup campers and well I got the back of a bombed out AMC Eagle. Interesting.
A crazy thing happened and Muddyrabbit proposed to Meredith there as planned, which Coco says was a first. So congrats!
