From Chiang Rai in northern Thailand I flew on a $40 Air Asia flight to Bangkok and another $40 flight to Krabi town which is in the Krabi province in southern Thailand.
Krabi is located on the west side of the mainland coast. There are several larger touristy areas here but there is a great getaway called Railay Beach which is very quiet and only accesible by boat.
About 2 hours west from Krabi by boat are the Ko Phi Phi islands and then farther west by boat is where the more popular (crowded) tourist island of Phuket is located.
