Itinerary Description:
On day 7 we left El Coyote beach south of Mulege and went north up Hwy 1, lunch at a little mom and daughter taco stand in Santa Rosalia and on to stay at San Ignacio for one night.
The picture of the cow on Hwy 1 shows the lack of a shoulder on the highway. If you look closely it is standing on the white line which is right on the edge of the pavement and then it drops off sharply. Semi trucks come and go and luckily it is not extremely busy or that cow would be toast.
San Ignacio is a small inland village and has a beautiful square and it is located in an oasis with lagoons and palm trees planted by mission priests.
It is also right on the Baja 1000 path so it is very popular with the locals. The kids hear the sound of a moto and want to come see it. We handed out candy that was fun. It also has a beautiful mission (church) right in town on the square.
You can see the entrance to San Ignacio at the 3:15 minute mark on this YouTube video I found.
On day 8 we rode to the whale camp at Laguna San Ignacio whereupon Muddyrabbit kicked down his kickstand and it promptly fell on the ground. Too damn funny!
We took a small boat tour out to see the whales up close. We were lucky as a curious one came to see us right up next to the boat and we all got to feel its skin and barnacles. Totally amazing.
I spent the night camping there at Kuyima ecological camp and they had a small cafe as well. The place is just covered in several feet deep of scallop shells.
Muddy and Mer rabbit stayed back in town at the IgnacioSprings Bed and Breakfast in a yurt surrounded by shady palm trees on a lagoon, a true oasis in the otherwise barren desert.
